Saturday, October 29, 2011 FREE FLU SHOTS

KU Medical Center is hosting a free flu shot drive-through clinic for Kansas City area residents on Saturday, October 29, 2011, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (while supplies last). The free flu shots will be given in the parking lot at Adams Street and Rainbow Boulevard (just east of 36th) in Kansas City, Kansas.

Anyone who is at least 18 years old is eligible for the free flu shot. Kids ages 8-17 can also get the shot with parental consent. The following people should not get a seasonal flu vaccination:

  • People with Guillian Barre Syndrome
  • Anyone who has a cold or fever
  • People with severe egg allergies

No appointment is necessary. Although the flu shots are free, donations and non-perishable food items for Harvesters will be accepted.

October 22nd, from 12 noon to 4:30 pm: FREE Fall Festival

The Marlborough Community Center at 8200 Paseo will be hosting a FREE Fall Festival on Saturday, October 22nd, from 12 noon to 4:30 pm. Games, moonwalk, snacks and beverages.

However, the Center is also putting out a call for volunteers to help with the event. They need 5 volunteers to help set-up the games, cook hotdogs, work the welcome desk and help cleanup. Hour-long shifts are available to work, so it won't eat into your whole Saturday to help families have a little fun.

Residents invited to discuss violent crimes and murders at town hall forum

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Fifth District Councilman Michael Brooks invites residents to participate in a town hall forum on Friday, Oct. 21 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Robert J. Mohart Center, 3200 Wayne Ave. The forum will discuss local crime and violence, along with ways the community can get involved in decreasing it.

During the town hall, guest speaker Mayor Sly James will describe his vision to reduce violent crime in Kansas City, Mo. Both Mayor James and Councilman Brooks will answer questions residents have regarding crime in Kansas City.

FREE: THE EIGHTH ANNUAL BLACK FAMILY TECHNOLOGY AWARENESS ASSOCIATION OF KANSAS YOUTH TECHNOLOGY FAIR



Date: Saturday, February 18, 2012
Time: 10 AM to 3 PM

Location: Southeast Community Center in Swope Park

4201 E. 63rd St. Kansas City, MO

This event is FREE and open to the public. Students from the greater Kansas City area will
showcase their talents in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) related fields
while competing to win technology related prizes.

There will be plenty of FREE hands on acitivities and demonstrations for the entire family.

Come out and see if you can beat the computer with the “Multiplication Challenge” also, Vex
Robotics will be having their 2nd competition for the Kansas City area. Come and check it out.

Digital Divide by helping to close the gap between Black Families and technology. The Black
Family Awareness Association is a non-profit 501c3 organization consisting of working and
retired professionals who volunteer their time to support our mission.”
