CAUTION: Sewer Leak into Area Creek

A sewer leak discharges waste water into a creek that runs into the Blue River

A sewer leak discharged 3,625 gallons of wastewater into a creek that runs into the Blue River.According to the Water Services Department in Kansas City, a sewer line overflowed at East 78th Street and Agnes Avenue as a result of a clog in the line. The city’s drinking water was not polluted by the leak, according to a press release issued Tuesday night. The release did not say when the leak occurred. City officials could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.Crews stopped the overflow, but more work must be done to finish repairs, the release said.Water samples have been collected, and Kansas City is working with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to mitigate the damage of the discharge. “The release of untreated sewage from sewer systems, such as this, is known as a sanitary sewer overflow and represents a potential threat to public health and the environment,” the press release said.
