Crime Alert - Be Careful

This report is from a neighborhood to the west of ours', but contains good information as well as the reminder that we should be aware of our surroundings, especially during a time of year when we can easily be distracted.

The Armour Hills Board has received information of a personal assault and robbery that warrants significant concern. Please read the following incident description and report ANY suspicious behavior or vehicles that match the descriptions from the crime. As further information is available from KCPD, updates will be sent through email.

An Armour Hills resident was robbed, at gunpoint, in his driveway near 69th and Brookside Road on Saturday evening, December 17, at 8:00 p.m. He and his family were made to lay face down on the ground while the gunman demanded money, rummaged through his pockets, and made threats. Fortunately, no one was injured but the gunman got away with their wallets, identification, and credit cards.

The suspect is a mature black man, 5'-8" to 5'-10 and about 200 lbs, wearing black and covering his face with a black ski mask.

The vehicle was reportedly a red or pickup, likely a late 90's model Chevy or GMC Z-71, and was waiting around the corner, on Brookside Road. The robbery occurred on 69th, just east of Brookside Road. Red pickup truck… likely a late-90's model Chevy or GMC Z-71

KCPD responded, but the suspect had already left the area. The suspect attempted to use a credit card from a subsequent Prairie Village robbery to purchase gas. The card was denied but surveillance video shows the truck.

Please be extra vigilant when coming and going. Consider letting a neighbor know when you will be arriving to provide an additional set of eyes in your driveway.

Remember to call 911 if you see anything unusual. Nothing is too small - a parked running vehicle, walkers without pets that don't seem to know the area, etc.

There is also a FREE EYEGLASS CLINIC on Saturday, December 17th, 10am-2pm at Paseo Baptist Church, 2501 Paseo Boulevard, KCMO 64108. For additional inquiries call 816-921-6842.

This is open to everyone – no pre-qualifying required. The event consists of eye examinations and same-day distribution of eyeglasses.
They are not new glasses, but will be constructed on-site from donated glasses based on the individual’s eye exam results. The last time this event was held at the church almost 350 people received FREE eyeglasses!!! Can you imagine! Feel free to share this information.

Thanksgiving Trash week

In observance of Thanksgiving on Thursday, Nov. 24, curbside trash and recycling collection will be delayed one day and City of Kansas City, Mo., offices and the 3-1-1 Action Center will be closed Nov. 24-25.

Residents who usually have Thursday trash and recycling collection will receive this service Friday, Nov. 25. Residents who usually have Friday collection will receive this service Saturday, Nov. 26.

In addition, the Household Hazardous Waste Facility will be open Monday, Nov. 21 through Wednesday, Nov. 23 and closed Thursday, Nov. 24 through Monday, Nov. 28 in observance of the holiday.

Highlights from the 5th District Residents Meeting on
November 5th includes:

• Lots of investment going on in the 5th District.,
which includes the Target Green project.

• Redistricting—the map is very close to going to the
entire City Council for a vote.

• The City was awarded an EPA Reuse Grant on November 4th for the project at the former Municipal Farm, which will cleanup the brownfields
in that area and revitalize it for reuse.

There were several guests in attendance, including Mia Ward from Neighborhood Preservation, Kendra Mosley Ayuk from Legal Aid and Roosevelt Lyons, the Mayor’s Special Assistant for Community Affairs.

These meetings are held on a quarterly basis, and are
hosted by 5th District Councilman Michael Brooks and
5th District At-Large Councilwoman Cindy Circo.
Everyone is invited to attend.

NEW COMMANDER METRO DIVISION

Effective October 16th, Metro Patrol Division has a new Commander: Major Diane
Mozzicato. Mozzicato most recently served in the Information Services Division. In
June, she was chosen to serve on a panel named by County Prosecutor Jean Pe-
ters Baker that would discuss improvements to sharing evidence with attorneys of
criminal defendants.

Mozzicato has reserved November 30, from 5 pm to 7 pm for the community to
meet her and her command staff: Captains Crayon, Marckx, Jantzen and True.
Please make plans to attend this “meet and greet.” Metro Patrol Station Commu-
nity Room, 7601 Prospect. There will be light refreshments and snacks provided,
so stop in and introduce yourself.

Senior Citizen Property Tax Credit

Certain senior citizens and 100% disabled individuals may be eligible for a Missouri income tax credit for a portion of their real estate taxes or rent paid for the year.

The credit is for a maximum of $750 for renters and $1,100 for owners who own and occupy their home. This credit can only be claimed on the home they occupy during the period being claimed. The actual credit is based on the amount of real estate taxes or rent paid and the total household income.
