Block watch trainings set through November

Because one of the best ways to fight crime is to work at keeping it from happening, Kansas City, Mo., residents can take block watch training classes at no cost. The City of Kansas City, Mo., Neighborhood Services Division of the Neighborhood and Community Services Department is holding the training.

At this training, participants will learn how to establish groups and some tips on crime prevention. The schedule for the training sessions is:

- Saturday, July 26, 10 a.m. to noon at Trailside Center, 9901 Holmes Road
- Thursday, Aug. 14, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Northland Neighborhoods Inc., 3015 N.E. Vivion Road
- Thursday, Sept. 11, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Southeast Public Library, 6242 Swope Parkway
- Thursday, Oct. 9, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at East Patrol Division, 5301 E. 27th St.
- Saturday, Oct. 25, 10 a.m. to noon at Hillcrest Community Center, 10301 Hillcrest Road
- Thursday, Nov. 13, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Rockhurst University Community Center, 5401 Troost Ave.

Groups that send three or more people to a training session (or attended the May 3 block contact training at the Kauffman Foundation or another similar training) and register with the Neighborhood Services Division will qualify to receive free neighborhood watch signs. These 18"x24" signs have the familiar Boris the Burglar logo on them and will be posted by the City.
