Winter power outage tips
Heat your home safely
If you plan to use a wood stove, fireplace, or space heater, be extremely careful. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and remember these safety tips:
- Store a multipurpose, dry chemical fire extinguisher near the area to be heated.
- Do not burn paper in a fireplace.
- Ensure adequate ventilation if you must use a kerosene heater. Carbon Monoxide from any heater with an open flame can be deadly.
- Use only the type of fuel your heater is designed to use - don't substitute.
- Use fireplaces, wood stoves, and other combustion heaters only if they are properly vented to the outside and do not leak flue gas into the indoor air space.
- Do not place a space heater near things that may catch on fire, such as drapes, furniture, or bedding.

Take Survey: plan for the US Highway 40 corridor
Greetings 5th District -
The City of Kansas City, Missouri, in conjunction
with Mid America Regional Council, is working with local citizens and
stakeholders to complete a corridor plan for the US Highway 40 corridor
in Jackson County. Within the City, the study
team in particular is focusing on planning for future transportation
and land use ideas for three focus areas along or near the corridor:
31st and Prospect, 40 Highway and Blue Ridge Cutoff, and 40 Highway and
Noland Road.
Members of the public participated in a series of
public meetings for the corridor plan prior to the recent holiday
season. The study team is working on creating its overall
recommendations for the US 40 plan and would like to gain greater
input from members of the public in the form of a survey that reflects a
series of questions posed to meeting participants prior to the
holidays.
We encourage you
to take the survey listed below and to share the survey link with your
constituents. The survey will remain open through March 5, 2013.
