Join KCParks, Trails KC, and the Earth Riders Trails Association (ERTA) to explore the newest addition to Swope Park.
Come out to experience the finest single track mountain bike trail in the metro. Whether on bike or foot; it's one of the best places to get back to nature. The new 1.75 mile Phase 4 addition to the trail will offically open at 9:00am. This addition puts the total of volunteer-built trail close to 8.5 miles to-date. Another 1/2 mile addition is planned for this summer.

PTC logoIf you are looking for a great place to play tennis, then look no futher than the Plaza Tennis Center. Centrally located, on the beautiful Country Club Plaza (4747 JC Nichols Parkway), the PTC has everything you are looking whether you are a novice, intermediate or advanced tennis player. Offering adult, women only and youth leagues and individual or group lessons all thoughout the Spring, Summer and Fall seasons, the Plaza Tennis Center has it all! Leagues generally run 3 weeks for youth and 5 weeks for adult sessions.
Don't want to sign up for lessons or a league, that's okay, the center also offers hourly court rental rates as well!

The public is invited to stop and smell the roses in Loose Park's Rose Garden during the 80th anniversary of Rose Day. From 1:00-5:00pm, prize winning roses from the Society's Annual Rose Show will be on display in the Garden Center. From 2:00-4:00pm, there will be free ice cream treats for kids and at 3:00pm the Celebration in the Rose Garden will begin featuring a performance by StoneLion Puppet Theatre.
In the past decade, the Kansas City Rose Society has raised and spent over one million dollars on improvements in the garden, including the new fountain which was dedicated in 2002. Please join us in the Laura Conyers Smith Municipal Rose Garden for this free event!!

Free Ice Skating: June 7
ice skatesIf you have you ever wanted to learn to ice skate, here is your chance! On Tuesday, June 7 Line Creek Ice Arena Instructors will teach you for FREE!! The 30 minute instructional class will begin at 6:20 pm and then you may continue to skate for free during the public session from 7:00-8:30pm. This free intro to ice skating class is open to all ages, you just need to call 816-513-0760 and press #9 to register.
Line Creek Ice Arena, 5940 N.W. Waukomis Drive, also offers Learn to Ice Skate group classes all year long. A great way to keep cool this summer, ice skating sessions begin in mid-June and run through August.

The Beanstalk Children's Garden Opens June 15
beanstalkReady for summer fun? The Beanstalk Children's Garden will open June 15. Group tours and family visits to the Beanstalk are encouraged until the garden closes on October 21. A visit to the Beanstalk shows children how much fun it is to grow things. They can taste, feel, and smell the various vegetables, fruits and herbs. They learn how the "sensitive plant" and the "toothache plant" and other plants got some of their unusual names. They can feed the fish and take home a seedling.

KCMO Parks and Recreation is partnering with the Kansas City Bicycle Club (KCBC) and Trails KC to present the annual City of Fountains Bicycle Tour on Sunday, June 19. The City of Fountains Bicycle Tour is a family-friendly ride that travels past many of Kansas City's historic fountains and other landmarks such as the Kansas City Museum, the Plaza, Liberty Memorial, and Cliff Drive.
