April 17th HEALTH FAIR




Research Medical Center Sponsors
4th Annual Community Block Party and Health Fair

Kansas City, MO (April 9, 2010)—Research Medical Center once again is preparing to be host to hundreds of Kansas City-area residents and their families during its 4th Annual Community Block Party and Health Fair.
The premier healthcare facility, part of the HCA Midwest Health System, puts out the welcome mat on Saturday, April 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with free activities and health screenings to encourage healthy lifestyles and offer area residents access to health information that can be beneficial for everyone in their family.
Attendees will enjoy a free healthy lunch between 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.


Highlights of the Community Block Party and Health Fair include nine free screenings, such as blood pressure,
blood glucose,
body mass index,
bone density and
glaucoma.

In addition, free take-home colorectal cancer kits will be available and attendees will have the opportunity to stroll through 75 booths that will provide a wide range of health information.

• Kid-oriented activities during the four-hour Community Block Party and Health Fair include free books from the Kansas City Public Library, carnival games, face painting and a Bicycle Safety Rodeo sponsored by Girl Scout Troop 242.

The first 250 children will be fitted with free bicycle safety helmets from the Brain Injury Association of Kansas and Greater Kansas City. A KCMO Fire Department fire engine will be on hand, along with the Bearcat Tactical Unit from the KCMO Police Department. The popular Teddy Bear Clinic will provide free “official check-ups” to dolls and teddy bears.



Local community entertainment will perform every half hour and there will be organized half- and one-mile walks beginning at 11 a.m. Additional sponsors of the Community Block Party and Health Fair include the Harmon Diabetes Center , The Research Foundation and the Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund.
